It wouldn’t be Summer if the Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band didn’t put out a scorcher of a seven inch for people to groove to. It seems like these cats have a knack for getting worked into a lot of DJs sets, alluring heads and new fans alike with their choice of covers and reworking of cult, underground music. They drop the heat always in time for the hot months. Most of these tracks are head nodders and if you’re in the vinyl record or DJ culture it’s always an “Oh Shit!” moment when they come on. This new offering keeps pushing things higher and higher as they grab ahold of Grace Jones’ nightclub classic “My Jamaican Guy” (A bonafide smash in its own right and the original sample For LL Cool J’s “Doin’ It”) and take it to the break of dawn on their own as “My Jamaican Dub”. They have their own version of bass culture on this one, no doubt a new classic in the making here in 2020. But as usual, wait, we’re not done. “We’re not done” as KRS-One would say. And it’s absolutely true. We are not done. The flip, which will get people even more excited is this incredible cover of Erika Badu’s tribute to J Dilla, “The Healer”. The original track could get one misty eyed and have their neck hurt at the same time from the beat and vocals alone. This new version is just taking it to another level. Hitting Madlib’s drum selection and Badu’s voice via steel drum, plus the added Glockenspiel, it slides right into the sweet spot. All three legends would be proud of this version. Another heat rock from BRSB and Big Crown Records from your turntable right in your ears. The Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band have yet another year of ruling Summer dance floors and airwaves with a hit.
