Los Angeles feel-good reggae outfit Night Owls are back once again with another banger of a forty-five for your record box. This time they tackle two big toons inna fine style. The first, Miami, Florida’s First Lady of Soul Helene Smith’s straight-up classic “You Got To Be A Man” featuring Sy Smith. It’s a definite rocksteady groover from start to finish. Backbeat and female vocals are right on point and on time, exactly what you would expect from Night owls if you’ve got their discography on your shelf. An excellent start to this new release. Our money and the winner (although both sides are a win for the listener, really) is their relick of Brenton Wood’s “Gimme Little Sign”. This funky gem features Chris Dowd from Fishbone, who is no stranger to reggae, ska and the like. Fishbone was one of the leaders of keeping this genre in people’s minds and spreading the good time wherever they went. Not familiar? You should be. This version by the Night Owls is really one of the best we’ve heard. A perfect way to start your weekend and a must-have in 2021 for your record shelves and or box. Listen to both tracks via the stream below and pre-order at the link below. Another Night Owls winner.
