Now Again Presents: Three Chicano Souldies 7″

The Souldies movement, which has gotten soul collectors and DJs alike excited for years, has really seen an uptick in production and a growing new audience around the world. With record labels such as Mango Hill, Big Crown, Penrose, Timmion, and more, it’s fitting that the well respected powerhouse Now-Again Records would release three special 45s on the label right now. Put together as a three record bundle or available for purchase individually, the releases represent a who’s who of the Souldies scene produced by  and written by Gabriel Rowland and Victor Benavides. Featuring sevens from Los Yesterdays, The Macrames, and Trish Toledo, the singles definitely highlight some of the best in that game here in 2021. Starting off the three is the demo version of “Mr. Yesterday” by Los Yesterdays.

Haunting vocals and back beat and a theme of living in the past. A beautiful early version of this top track. Tapping into the Queen of L.A. Souldies, the second 7 is Trish Toledo’s” Coco La LaLa”. Toldeo tackles this one with her sultry voice and a sweet nod to some Miami soul sounds all the way through. Check the dope salsa piano work too. The last sideis from The Macrames. “Unintentional Consequence Of Love” feels and sounds like Al Green or Philly soul through and through. Featuring the world famous Ozomatli horns, we are feeling all three records, but this one stands out the most to us. On a whole, this effort by Now-Again is a must for soul collectors and fanatics around the globe. These Souldies forty-fives are going to be sought after in years to come, mark our words.
