Here’s one for all of the Sun Ra fans out in cosmos. There’s so much material out there, so much history, we’re excited to put this one out into the universe today. Germany’s Strut Records will be releasing a four-LP rendition of the 1978 Sun Ra classic Lanquidity. Containing the original album, the box set will also feature an alternatively mixed record by Bob Blank (at the time, released in very limited quantities at a ’78 Georgia Tech show the Arkestra played at). For those of you that are familiar, rejoice in having the original and alternative versions together! Both are cut on loud, 45 RPM vinyl, and at 2 LPs each, will be a welcome addition to any completist of the man’s work or to enthusiasts who have yet to dig deeper.
Enter the sober, tranquil chambers of the next moment. Soft angles of lights into space, chords of blue and gold. Melting impressions of liquid dreams.
– Michael Ray, Sun Ra Arkestra
The classic album features the five tracks that take you on a celestial and spiritual journey. With classic sides like “Lanquidity”, “Where Pathways Meet”, “This Is How I Feel” (with the great Eddie Gale on trumpet and Marshall Allen on oboe), “Twin Stars Of Thence”, and “There Are Other Worlds (They Have Not Told You Of)”, this is one of the great Sun Ra records. The box set itself will be housed in a silver foil box with the original Philly Jazz artwork and foil sleeves. Also included will be a 12-page, oversized booklet of Veryl Oakland’s unseen photos as well as liner notes from Bob Blank, Danny Ray Thompson, and Michael Ray (Sun Ra Arkestra), and Tom Buchler from Philly Jazz.
