Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band: Dirt Off Your Shoulder

Coming off their latest long player Expansions on Big Crown Records which is due for release this July, the Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band return with more heat for their global cult audience. The steel pan crew has been cooking up killer seven inch versions of classics and heating up dancefloors and turntables world wide since their formation. Part mystery, part history, and full parts dope, BRSB move along in the same rhythm with some some tracks that run along the same lines as we are used to hearing from them inna steel drum style and some new ish that will as always keep you coming back for more.

Using the steel pan sounds that are traditionally from Trinidad and Tabago is the draw and unique approach of the band, and Expansions has a little bit of something for everyone. Along with original tracks like “Tough Victory”, the full length gives us covers from artists that run the gamut from Galt MacDermot to Slum Village to Grace Jones to Sylvester to Ike Turner to Minnie Ripperton and more. The tease we get today is a bang up cover of Jay Z’s “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” from The Black Album. Giving Timbaland’s production a serious run for his money, BRSB crush this club classic in their own way. These records from this very unique group just keep getting better and better. One of our faves on the record, this one will be a definite choice on the DJ circuit. Our bet is that it will be one of the hits of the summer. Facts. Listen to “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” below and pre-order Expansions after the stream.
