Back with some new heat from The New Mastersounds keyboard player extraordinaire Joe Tatton and the Joe Tatton Trio. Tatton has been steadily laying down heat rocks not just with the band, but on his own for quite some time. This double-sider surely cures what ails you.
The A-side, “Timeline” focuses on our society’s social media-obsessed ways, the fear of missing out, and really highlight’s Tatton’s piano (and vocal skills). Giving it to us in the style of one Mose Allison, we get to hear some heartfelt lyrics and beautiful piano on this one. The legendary Mississippi-born and New York-based jazz and blues singer/ musician has influenced not just Tatton, but other heavy hitters such as Van Morrison, Georgie Fame, Ben Sidran, and others along the way. Putting together some absolutely stunning music that touched the world from the 1950s right up until his death in 2015, it’s easy to hear why Allison’s sound grabbed music lovers all over the world.
Tatton is not done though just with the A as the B-side wins again with “Stomp”. Jumping in is the JTQ flutist Gareth Lockrane who tears it down on this funky, but slow-burning instrumental that has Ramsey Lewis, Herbie Mann, or Allen Toussaint written all over the influences. Tatton rarely disappoints, and this one is solid as a rock. Listen to both tracks below and order the record after the stream.
