I’m starting off February right here at Flea Market Funk with another all 45 mix. Inspired by double agents and low brow movie soundtracks I’ve assembled 16 original Funk sides to start your weekend off right with. There are a few new sides I just acquired along with a bunch of stuff I have been sitting on until the right moment. The mix has some hard hitting stuff courtesy of my man Kenny Dope over at Kay Dee in The Original Black Sheep of the Family (also shout out to Mike Curtis on that one), comedy record with drums and Pigmeat Markham, some covers from Breakestra doing Leroy and the Drivers and Pucho & the Latin Soul Brothers taking on Curtis Mayfield as well as Freddie Terrell & the Soul Expedition doing a Mack Rice side, some Florida Funk goodness from Cal Roberts, a couple of reissues from Cultures of Soul (Roy Roberts) and Jazzman (Vern Blair Debate), Cindy and the Playmates putting out a belter of a side, and few other heaters in Moody Scott and Pride (who do their best Disco Funk impression with heavy drums). One record that I also absolutely dig is Larry Williams, who was from New Orleans but recorded on the Los Angeles MGM imprint Venture. It was done all live and in one take. The mix is around 50 minutes, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.
