Tonight, if you’re in NYC, and you’ve recovered from Mr. Finewine’s 18th Anniversary at Botanica last night (seriously, the guy is an institution..eighteen years!), Flea Market Funk invades the lobby of the Ace Hotel once again. Thursdays in March will be fun, as it will be an all 45 RPM affair for the most part. We’re digging deep into the crates in our lab to bring out some sides that we haven’t highlighted in a while and jump at the chance to lay down some little records with big holes in this space. It’s actually what we did in the beginning, grabbing the attention of Ace mastermind Alex Calderwood (Rest In Peace), who told us we “should be spinning here a lot.” So in essence, we’re going back to our roots this residency, and spinning the records we love. What to expect during the residency: Funk and Soul heaters, cool Reggae, and Jazz 45s from 8PM-12AM each week. As an early bonus, we get behind the decks at 6PM tonight for this special opening, spinning tasty beats to set the mood for the evening.

Art Video Games in China is an investigation into works by Chinese game designers that attempt to break the norms and subvert the mainstream narratives of the Chinese video game industry through works focused on personal expression and values. At the invitation of Ace Hotel New York, works curated by Bryan Ma will be installed into playable upright arcade cabinets designed by Babycastles featuring bold, one-of-a-kind paint jobs by local New York artists.

The Ace Hotel always has something cool and different going on, and this event should be a really killer time. We are excited for this special night, and look forward to seeing some old friends as we take over the lobby every Thursday in March. It’s all free, so come on out and see some good art, check out some video games, and hear some music spun by yours truly. Hope to see some of the Flea Market Funk family out.
