It’s a known fact that we love Paul Nice here at Flea Market Funk. DJ, producer, beat maker,Kung Fu connoisseur, he is one talented cat. if you have no idea what we’re talking about, well, check out one of his many DJ mixes or re-edits. This is one seriously talented dude. Whether it’s flipping Sade, blending the classics, reinterpretations of Marvin Gaye or Beatles edits, there is something for everyone. And it’s good. We came across this project from Paul recently, and as quickly as it went up on his soundcloud page, it came down. However, someone was smart enough to get it up on youtube and everyone’s Monday is that much better. “Kendra’s C.R.E.A.M.” features the beautiful vocal styles of Miss Kendra Morris, another talented singer who has been doing her own thang for more than a minute. Whether it be her own bangers, reinventions of Classic Rock or Hip Hop and beyond, Morris has the golden voice that gets the job done. Of course Paul Nice has the drums, production, and sampling that always comes through no matter what. This is a match made in heaven..er, we mean Shaolin.
The unmistakable hook from The Charmels that RZA used from her cover of the original off of her 2013 Mockinbird record has her keeping it sweet with the voice while Nice injects Wu-Tang acapellas, and Kung Fu sound bytes to make this cover version a keeper. Now this classic track has been covered by ukulele, known Funk outfits (El Michels Affair), on acoustic guitar, blended with Jazz originals, and can not be effed with (pun intended) ever. Or so we thought. This project, although it’s old as per Paul’s account, pushes some fresh life into the song for sure. Both of these artists have put their all into keeping the classic as close to the original, with a small amount of deviation. We love it here, and applaud this effort in full. If this track was taken down as fast as it was put up, imagine what other goodies Paul Nice has in his quiver of beats. We are all ears Paul, keep them coming.
