Breakdown Brass – Monmouth b/w Next Episode

Processed with VSCOcam with b5 presetFollowing up their introduction of this talented band with the in studio video “The Horseman”, Brooklyn’s Breakdown Brass come correct with a new seven inch on Kept Records available on 4/20. This double sided debut of Afro Funk meets Balkan Brass from Calgary via Brooklyn is guaranteed to get them sweaty and moving on any dance floor. There is so much going on with both of these tracks, but the common thread is the groove each side of this 45 gives off. I dare you not to nod your head or move your feet a bit. Go ahead. “Monmouth” is a horn filled dance party with an infectious sousaphone bass line and guitar licks abound. The percussion breakdown stops you in your tracks for a few before the horns steam roll back in and get the job done. On the flip, “The Next Episode” is a cover of the Dr. Dre/ Snoop club banger done in a BB style. Full up with that David McCallum sample redone to perfection with a gang of horns, Breakdown Brass does their best world class wrecking crew job of making this cover stand out. It’s a mover and we definitely cosign the cover as one of the most creative we have heard. We have always dug brass bands here at FMF, maybe it’s because they are just so damn funky. And speaking of, file this whole 45 under funky as well. Have a listen to the record below.

Pre-Order the 45 here.

Keep Diggin’!
