With my Fridays in November residency coming up at the Ace Hotel in New York City, I wanted to drop a quick mix highlighting some music I’ll be playing during that time. There is a hefty amount of heavy drums, quality hip hop, original samples, authentic reggae, raw funk and soul, as well as other assorted nuggets. The mix was done all live in one take with no pre-planned set in the FleaMarket Funk lab in Jersey City, NJ. It’s how it will go at The Ace Hotel. The mix contains pops, crackles, etc. that you would expect when a live DJ set goes down. I’m a huge fan of doing it live as opposed to making it perfect through editing. That’s the way the park jams went down, and that’s the way a mix should be done. If it was good enough for the founders of this hip hop culture, than it’s good enough for us. Fortunately, we don’t have to plug into a light pole and steal electricity. That being said, put on your headphones, sit back and enjoy. You are about to go on a ride on a ride with Fleamarket Funk as your captain. Get up and dance a bit if you want, we’re not telling. It’s Friday, you have to cut loose somehow, right?
