In the Flea Market Funk vaults, we have a grip of old mixes archived. For years they were archived over at divshare. For whatever reason, these mixes don’t work anymore. So, for the first 30 or so mixes, I’ve decided to move them over to mixcloud. The first mix I have for your ears, is from one of the early Asbury Park 45 Sessions from 2007. From what I can remember, we had two guest selectors, SAVE1 from Providence, RI and Soul Chef from Baltimore, who threw down some great sets. It was Larry from Funky 16 Corners birthday so we made him a 45 RPM cake. It was early in the Sessions, so we had Connie T. Empress from the Empire Soul Club, DJ Bluewater, and DJ Jack the Ripper (anyone know where this dude is?) holding down impressive sets as well. In this live set, I played some heavy funk, mixed in with some raw soul and a few dirty R & B cuts to keep ’em dancing. These sets are great memories of a time when we were doing something no one was doing in that area, which brought together old and new friends from all over the country to introduce tunes to an audience who were eager to hear new music and dance to it.
