PREMIERE: Magic In Threes – At Jody’s b/w Breezy Day

***PREMIERE ALERT!

Today’s track comes courtesy of a band we haven’t heard from in a while, Magic In Threes and their debut 45 on KingUnderground “At Jody’s” b/w “Breezy Day.” Originally formed as a side project out of the DeRobert and The Half Truths crew, the band put out a a few releases on the G.E.D. Soul label that caught our ears. Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, they wear their influences on their sleeves and that’s a good thing. Combining their love for library records, cinema soundtracks, and hip hop tapes, this trio’s blend of smoker’s delights has kept heads nodding since 2010 when they were formed.

Funky and sophisticated, it could easily be the back drop for one of those late ’60’s/ early ’70’s British detective shows you’ve never heard of.

“At Jody’s”, recorded at at flautist Jody Douglas’s house is a sweet, stoned walk on a sunny day through the Sylvan Park neighborhood of Nashville. Headphones on, music turned up, head nodding, subtle wink and finger pointing at passers by, this is the soundtrack you have desperately been waiting for. The video below illustrates it perfectly. A great start to this double side of goodness. The flip, “Breezy Day”, sounds like an outtake from DeWolfe, KPM, or the like. Funky and sophisticated, it could easily be the back drop for one of those late ’60’s/ early ’70’s British detective shows you’ve never heard of. Heavy bass and guitar paired with some fine work on the keys plus a solid back beat keep this track classic sounding, but fresh for 2017. This is exactly the type of music we love to hear on the daily. They know their history and combine it well with the personal style of the band. The hits just keep rolling for Magic In Threes. It’s a band like this that digs deeper and comes up with a corker of a funky forty five, which gives us hope that there are musicians making quality, meaningful music in the sea of mediocrity that swirls around our ears every single day of our lives. Have a listen for yourself and fall in love with these cats. Check out the track below, and pre-order the forty five after the stream.
