The Impellers: As Sampled By

Who doesn’t like breaks? All the breaks, breaks used by artists we love, forty five breaks, 12″ breaks and samples we find ourselves humming along to during the day, breaks that make you go: “OH SHIT!”. Here is the record you are looking for. It’s got 44 classic breaks that were sampled by the pioneers of hip hop and drum ‘n bass, played live and put together DJ style. We are talking about artists like De La Soul, Eminem, Dre, Eric B & Rakim, Public Enemy, N.W.A, Kendrick, Run DMC, The Beasties, J5, Big Daddy Kane, ATCQ, The Prodigy, DJ Shadow and Goldie, plus any drum ‘n bass producer who has ever put out a record. You know what we are talking about here.

We were definitely impressed by this release, and see the Impellers carring the torch on for the next generation(s).

While bands like Breakestra have definitely been the pioneers (along with The Roots) in performing the live mix tape, we were definitely impressed by this release, and see the Impellers carring the torch on for the next generation(s). Definitely bummed that we missed out on the first run of this unique record. Hailing from Brighton, UK, the outfit features Glenn Fallows (Guitar, Piano, Organ), Clair Fallows (Lead vocals), Ed Breaker (Bass), Tom Henderson (Drums), Barry Lalanne (Guitar), Joel Essex (Percussion), Darren Smith (Tenor Sax), Chris Evans-Robert (Alto Sax), Mark Yexley (Trumpet), and Emma Black (Baritone Sax). As tight knit group of musicians as you will ever hear. Flea market Funk approved, and we would love to see them live someplace somewhere. Big tunes.

Have a listen for yourself, and then thank us because you will be playing it all day.
