As time goes by and you, as a record digger, collector, DJ, and appreciator of quality vinyl records digs deeper into the abyss of music, you get to unpeel the layers of the onion that reveal sides that are magic. For me that was always jazz. Whether free jazz, fusion, soul jazz and beyond, I am always discovering soemthing for my ears. So imagine my surprise when I got this record passed to me by TD from Boston. I have Will Session records, some Funk night test pressings that are bangers in their own right. But this live recording, Kindred Live is a special one. Changing colors like a chameleon and determined not to be held down to a corner of just one genre, this record pays tribute to jazz fusion pioneers like Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, and of course Miles Davis. Featuring special guest Amp Fiddler on Fender Rhodes, clavinet, and synth, this record was recorded at two separate shows at the world famous jazz club Cliff Bells in Detroit. If you weren’t there, don’t worry, put on your headphones and you are transported to the Motor City for some top notch jazz fusion played by some of the best players in the game today. Tracks include “Dance Girl/ Chameleon”, “Bitches Brew”, “Sivad”, “Kindred”, “River People” and “Black Satin/ What I Say”. If you couldn’t hear the greats do it live, you can now hear Will sessions and Amp Fiddler tear through these tracks with great talent and emotion. They are deep, and if you were afraid before to explore tracks like this, take a chance, you’ll surprise yourself. Dope all around, this one is on repeat in the studio for sure. Stream the record below and buy the album via Fat Beats after the stream. Keep this weekend going and free your mind from bad, commercial music.
