If you have been in the DJ scene as a performer or been following DJ culture for decades, then there is no doubt you have heard of DJ Platurn. Platurn has been repping the Bay Area via Iceland for quite some time and is a veteran of the industry, a well respected disc jock, turntablist, producer, and champion of the culture. His mix game is as tight as they come, so when we got this new project from Needle To The Groove, we knew straight away that it was going to be a smash. Breaking The Ice is an extended mix of very rare, and most definitely never heard before Icelandic music tracks mixed by DJ Platurn. Filled with a bastion of records that run the gamut from funk to disco to soul and the like, it’s carefully curated, mixed to perfection, and is a lesson we all need to learn. This music that Platurn is bringing us comes from a lifetime of collecting records and also records passed through his family, who have deep musical roots there. This opus is a life’s work, and it shows in every way. But it’s not just the music, it’s in the packaging as well, which includes rare photos via Platurn’s father, Magnus Thordarson, which detail the Icelandic music scene from the 1960’s through the 1980’s. The extensive liner notes are written by veteran music writer David Ma, which details that music scene and more. If you are a fan of music, good mix tapes, and love it funky, then we recommend you grab this for your collection. We have been playing it loud in the studio for quite some time. As a matter of fact,
