Copped some records from an older retired DJ active mid to late 1970’s, came up on two 45 gems at 50 cents each, Weldon Irvine “I Love You” and Beloyd “Get into Your Life”, Scored!
Favorite Mix and Why. Any Genre, Any DJ.
Brainfreeze is one of my all time favorites. I opened up for DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist for their Brainfreeze show in NY. The things they did with 45’s back then were light years away from what cats are doing now, plus their selection, many are still catching up!
LP, 12”, or 7” format?
In all honesty, it doesn’t matter. It’s all about the music. I’ve been buying all three formats my entire life. Everyone is all 45 crazy now, it’s hilarious to me. I’m already collecting 78’s!
Junk Food You Can’t Live Without:
Not much of a junk food junkie, but I love cookies! Especially chocolate chip.
Most Memorable Gig Played:
I once got a standing ovation in Paris during one of my WONDER-Full sets that probably lasted about 5 minutes. The crowd clapped so hard and long that I couldn’t even play another tune. It was overwhelming. It was after playing “As” which is usually the peak of the party. I couldn’t believe it! I guess I evoked some magical spirits that night. That moment lives on YouTube somewhere.
Record That Never Leaves Your Record Box:
A record I’ve had to purposely not play out for a while is James Brown “Give It Up or Turnit Loose” the Live undubbed remix version. Been running that thing into the ground forever.
Shout Outs, Last Remarks, and Gig Info:
Check my new podcast radio show DJ Spinna Sound Spectrum on Mixcloud.com. I’m giving you a taste of my collection every week. It’s something I’m doing out of necessity…to basically not feel like a vinyl hoarder and also inform the public on all this great unknown or seldom heard music new and old. Shout out to all my fans that have been rocking with me for 20 years plus. I have lots in store across genres. Peace!
