Speaking of edits, if you haven’t got your hands on any of the Hello Sailor Edits that have been coming out of this excellent label, here is a chance to redeem yourself and grab their latest release. Label general Renata Do Valle joins forces with Superior Elevation’s Tom Noble for a double sided thunder kick of edits that are delightful. The record label itself will often do some spelunking through the sounds of Africa on this label. These sounds as you know, directly influence Brazilian music. So on this volume the pair take on Cameroonian singer Martha Zambo’s “Alu”, which gives the tempo a little push and follows suit with some superb synth work, great horns, and leaves it in your ears for the rest of the day. The flip, Sonny Okosuns’ “My Ancestors”, is funk out of Nigeria that moves baby. Present as always are Noble’s deep production skills that adds to the boiling pot of re-edits, as the pair put a side of cosmic magic into both of these tracks. Not overly done, the edits are just right and definitely pay homage not just to the artists, but to the original music as well. Listen to both tracks below:
