Pat Van Dyke – Lotus

If you look back on Pat Van Dyke’s career, from his early days in punk rock bands to the maturation of a funky jazz musician, producer, and bandleader, you’ll find that same work ethic with everything he does. Constantly playing out live, working in the studio, and churning out quality music that is sought out by television and other outlets, his star has been on the rise for a while. Surrounding himself with some of the best players around, this Jersey native is back once again, this time with a full length entitled Hello Summer. Just in time for the warmer weather, outdoor gigs, coolers full of craft beer, and the smell of BBQ, Van Dyke again nails it right on the head with this one. Featuring players like Zah Colwell, Jesse Fisher, David Stolarz, Joey Johnson, Matt Chertkoff, Peter Lin, Nik Grinder, Sam Hoytt, Ryan Anselmi, David Levy, and mastered by the mighty K-Def, you’ll be starting out your Summer just right with this record. With PVD at the helm, on drums, and many other instruments, this one is always more than a family affair. The first single, “Lotus”, a track that’s been a staple in his live gigs for a minute, is your entry point to the hottest time of the year (not to mention a hot record to go with it). Light and airy with plenty of funky vibes as well as a tenor sax solo by Colwell and Fender Rhodes goodness by Jesse Fisher, the horn sections on it compliments the whole introductory to the package. Think early 70’s CTI vibes x Roy Ayers in your classic ride with the windows open and PVD and company providing the soundtrack to your shore adventure. No fist pumps ever, just laid back grooves and all. [Insert good time here]. Check out the single below. Pre-order after the stream.

Pre-order the record here, available on Cotter Records/ Stereo Vision Recordings on June 22nd.
