We’ve been featuring Villiage Live Records and their stable of talented artists for some time, and it gives us great pleasure to bring to you the first jazz record they have put out on the label. Multi-instrumentalist Andy Baxter aka Robohands comes correct of this long player with his debut on the label, Green. This ten track record is full of lo fi, chilled out jazz tracks that feature Baxter on Drums, Guitar, Bass, Piano, and Synths, as well as Jo Hunter on tenor sax in two tracks, Francesca Uberti on vocals on one track, and lastly Peter Milanovic adding in various bass and woodwinds on two tracks. Featuring “Lost”, a chilled out, late night wind down of a track that has Baxter moving at a thousand miles an hour, and such stand outs as the music for your REM sleep, “Dreams”, a trip to a city that feels like you are exploring it all night on “NY”, “Lament”, with its understated horn arrangements and hip hop drums, as well as the closer “Mountain”, another winner on both the drum and horn front, beautiful keys living alongside like they’ve known each other for years. The record is everything. A beautiful, ambient filled ride that combines instrumental hip hop and smooth jazz into one of our favorite records of the year. We see ourselves going back to this Lp again and again. In fact, it has been on repeat since it arrived in the post. Check out the video for “Lost”:
