For those fans of the Disques Debs out label of Guadeloupe, you’re in luck. The label that started in the 1950’s and has gone on over fifty years and has released in excess of 500 records (Lps and 7″s) in styles ranging from early biguine and bolero to zouk and reggae sees a compilation on Strut Records that focuses on the first decade or so. The label itself is primarily responsible for bringing the créole music of Guadeloupe and Martinique to a global audience among other sounds. This is the first ever official release from the archives of Disques Debs and the first in a three part series (the next will be available 2019). Compiled by Hugo Mendez (Sofrito) and Emile Omar (Radio Nova), it features full sleeve liner notes including unseen archive photos, artist interviews, and more.
