Afronova – Whatever You Want b/w Keep Stepping

Here’s some hot fire for the turntables early in the week, as we get a full listen to the new forty five from the London, UK outfit Afronova. Comprised of London based musicians & producers Tom Funk and Oz Nid, plus players such as Tony Allen on drums and Trevor Walker on horns, what we have here today is just plain full on heat from start to finish. This project is afro-funk to the core, as the two combine afro beats and latin rhythms to come up with a recipe that will have the dace floor bubblin’ and the sweat dripping all night. The A-Side, “Whatever You Want” goes right back to the Motherland and pulls from the originators plus contemporary rhythms to make your body move uncontrollably. Heavy synth work and a beat that is really top of the ladder, this one is strictly for the dancers for sure. The flip, “Keep Steppin’ ” starts off with the bass, but moves slowly into a built up groove with heavy drums and more synthesizer work, slowly burning it in and keeping it going until the fire burns out. Both tracks serve a purpose here and for sure will work at different times during the night. Well pleased at this one, you can find it on Lazy Robot Records. Well done chaps.
