Great to see that The Soul Grenades are back with some heat for the funk dance floors worldwide. This time, they have linked up with Mukatsuku Records for a hot double sider of a seven in in A Blast Of Funk!. Known for being a diverse band of globe trotting musicians, they have been setting stages on fire and making people break a sweat for a minute now. It’s no wonder Mukat grabbed them for this project, their debut single. They take two popular cover songs in their live bag of tricks and lay them down on vinyl. The first, one of our favorites on its own “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams is so superbly done as a horn filled instrumental that it might cause Daft Punk to take off their helmets and Pharell to pause, because let’s face it, it’s a winner from start to finish. A funky soul version of this electronica classic, yes please we’ll have it. The flip, another brass filled, ‘Nawlins jawn, a cover of “Louie Louie” by The Kingsmen, is low down and Big easy dirty, complete with brass band horns and organ licks. Both of these joints are staples in their live show, so for maximum effect you definitely need to go see them live, but for them to capture both of these hot takes on a seven is a win win for all of us. Just for the “Get Lucky” version alone, it’s great. Once again, Mukatsuku coming through like JB on the Night Train, hitting every city, calling it out by name, and dropping fresh forty fives wherever they land. We are digging both of these tracks, so will your dance floor.
