In this day and age of political uneasiness, we’re going to bring you a nine piece band that is shaking up the scene with their shows and a new, politically charged single. Chris Hazlton, the organ player, band leader, composer, and multi-instrumentalist from Kansas City, MO is behind this night train of funky soul. Super strong and featuring the vocals of Misha Roberts, Seyko Groves, and Paula Saunders, plus Hazelton on bass, Branden Moser and Cole Bales on guitar, and dave Brick on drums, this record is evoking some late ’60’s Bay area protest music vibes while still keeping the groove going hard enough to set the dance floor ablaze. Hazelton is no stranger to putting out funky and soulful music, as he’s been releasing heat on the Sunflower Soul label for a minute with his Boogaloo 7, plus other diverse records ranging from afrobeat to pop/ rock and more. This one has got some pep behind it, and if you scroll to the bottom, you can see The Freedom Affair doing the song in its entirety live. Now that’s a treat. Of course for this release they linked up with Midwest powerhouse Colemine Records to share the funky love with the world. Available in both black and blue vinyl, what ever is your pleasure, this record is the sound track not just to a musical revolution, but a human rights shot heard round the world. It’s about time and the people need to rise up, The Freedom Affair is their soundtrack. From KCMO to all corners of the world: Get Up, Get Into It and Get Involved!
