Ghost In The Tapes – Happily Confused

Start your day off with the new Ghost In The Tapes project Happy Confused. Formed by Genshu Fukaya who’s behind the mic and production alongside French electronic whiz M.A BEAT!’s Samy Abboud, for the group’s first collaboration. The project features global-based vocals from around the world such as Canadian-Japanese singer-songwriter Julia Shorteed, Queens-based MC’s Jugo and Willfromqnz, French rap collective Les Gars Du Coin aka LGDC,, Joseph Wallace from London, Quentin Thomas on sax, Dan Wang on samples (London), and Louis Treffel on bass. Quite a wide array of players and contributors on this one, and with influences that range from Bjork, Flying Lotus, Kendrick Lamar, Massive Attack and Madlib among others, it’s quite the beat stew. Straight up head nodders like “Strawberries”, “Boppin’ “, “Happily Confused” and “Lyrical Fitness” lead the charge. But it’s not just the neck snappers that keep it moving, atmospheric and moody tracks like “Madrugada” and “Illusions” round out the project. A futuristic and classic approach to the worldwide language known as hip hop. With album artwork from the Bristol, UK based animator they call Ruffmercy (Thom Yorke, Nas, Flying Lotus among others), this pressing of 300 pieces won’t be around long. We say job well done to everyone. Black Milk Music for the win once again. Check out a long preview of the record below, which is available right now.
