F-Spot Records continues to crush the 45 game with another release from the excellent Night Owls. We’ve seen these cats before with their funky reggae take on a few classic tracks and this new double sider is more heat coming out of that kitchen. They take on two burners once more and the result is dance floor fire. Comprised of Dan Ubick (The Lions, Connie Price and the Keystones) on Guitar, Blake Colie (Arise Roots, The Lions) on Drum Kit , Dave Wilder (The Lions) on Bass, and Roger Rivas (The Aggrolites, Jason Mraz) on Organ and Piano, this all star line up of players knows good music. They’ve taken on the Cyril Neville stone groove “Gossip”, which features The Lions Malik “The Freq” Moore on lead vocals and Elgin Park from Greyboy All-Stars on the sitar part, which we might add, is given that Night Owls funky Jamaican groove. We will go and say it right now: this is the best take we’ve heard on this song ever. But, the band doesn’t stop there. The flip is a cover of The Dramatics “ Whatcha See is Whatcha Get” and features Alex Désert (Hepcat, The Lions)Jesse Wagner (The Aggrolites) and Malik Moore blending their vocals together that take this cover to a higher level. Leave it to reggae, as its done in the past to take dope songs and just make them even better. F-Spot has continually furthered the musical landscape with records like this, bringing some of Los Angeles’ top notch musicians together to keep our heads nodding and bodies moving. Have a listen to both sides of this banger below and pre-order after the stream. The record will be released on August 28th.
