This is what we’re talking about on a Friday. If you need a little mystery in your life, check out Pan Amsterdam’s new single. Pan Amsterdam made waves in 2018 after his debut record Pocket Watch, toured with Open Mike Eagle and then got tapped by Iggy Pop to write his produce a lot of his release Free as Leron Thomas (composer/ multi-media artist/ trumpeter/ super genius and the man behind his alter ego rap persona Pan Amsterdam). Got that? Along the way, touring and being a bandleader with Iggy, he solidified relationships to collaborate with after tour. He gets together with Jimi Goodwin from Doves as well as Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods and some other surprise notables. “Carrot Cake”, produced by the illustrious GUTS has Pan Amsterdam spitting flawlessly over GUTS production on everything from Muhammad Ali to ayahuasca. “Carrot Cake” also features some dope trumpet as well, with an overall feel is laid back and jazzy, with PA’s tone serious with some comic relief and pop culture references throughout. It’s abstract and intelligent, well done and catchy. You’ll also get a chance to listen to “Debtors Skyline” produced by Mr. Shn, which reminds us of a spoken word piece in a smoked out cafe (remember them?) with a band playing behind the artist and you walking away after the performance asking: “When’s this guy performing again?”. We’re looking forward to hearing more of the record, but for now you can stream both tracks and pre-order the record out on Def Pressé on October 7th.
Pre-order the record here, available October 7th.
