The heat today comes out of Italy via North Carolina with the second edition on Tesla Groove International. It’s the group Amaj, and they have a double-sider of absolute fire here with this one. The chaps at Cannonball/ Tesla Groove are known for grabbing up this kind of heater and getting the word out to the world, and “One Love (Alberto’s Groove)” is turning into that record of the moment. By that, we mean the hot ish and a dance floor killer. From that first bassline and Marvin Gaye like intro to the silky smooth vocals and backbeat that takes you on a slow ride of soul-infused R & B that puts out it out bluntly: “Why must we fight? We need a solution.” A call to arms to the human race to get it together. Take it as you want: a love song, a sign of the times, or whatever, but this one is right on point. The flip, “High Life” is an upbeat groove as light and airy as a Summer’s day. It moves and flows like water and this funky situation has really got a hold on us. With injections of gospel, soul, R & B, and some funk elements throughout, this is going to be sought after in a few years. It’s versatile, and could be played at a Sweater Funk/ Shake! type of night just as easily as a chilled out art event or dinner party. Amaj is the name you need to remember and Tesla Groove International and Cannonball Records are the label that has got them out there. Check out snippets of both sides below and order the record after the stream.
