New Year, who dis? As we approach our fourteenth year here at Flea Market Funk, we’re going to kick off the year with what we started the whole thing off with, a little bit of soul for your earholes this morning. This is brought to you by the good people over at the Preservation Project. With PP009, they are again digging deep to bring the listener music never heard before (as in decades). These two tracks performed by an unknown artist are pure soul mastery. Both sides are breathtaking, and for the soul lover, you’ll want to scoop up this double side of buttery goodness with the quickness. Previously unreleased, the A-Side, “Suddenly” is said to have come before “Bet You Never Thought About It” by Newsounds on Mod-Art. With strong vocals and harmonies, this mystery soul track is indeed a winner. But in true Preservation Project fashion, they’re not done. Flip the record over and get to the B-side. With a slower soul style, “Just Another” is a ballad that we could see ending the night of a smoking soul show. A slow burner with a dance cheek to cheek (whenever we get back to this kind of event, but definitely back then) even though it’s a break-up song. Full of superb strings, bass work, and drums for days, this one is that slow soul that grabs you by the collar and whacks you across the face. Another soul sure shot from the people at PP, who dig deep so you don’t have to. Click the link below for samples of both tracks and to purchase. These releases do not last long, so don’t sleep!
