Always pushing to find music that blows people’s minds, Brewerytown Beats in Philadelphia jump back with a seriously heavy soul record out of the City of Brotherly Love and give it some love in a big way. Today’s goodness is The Ultimates “Why I Love You”.
This West Philly group: Monica Thornton, Debra Herbin, & Leona Cummings were neighbors and best of friends. Signing for the neighborhood, friends, and family would lead their Aunt, Evetta Valentine to eventually get them into Sigma Sounds Studio to record this track put together by local guitar player and songwriter Kenny Fuller. Both sides of this record were recorded in two hours (the majority on “Why I Love You”) and although it was appreciated by Kenny Gamble of Philadelphia International Records, it didn’t really go too far. However, it was picked up by the SoCal Low Rider scene and made its rounds there. Grabbed by the Left Coast, they were on to something. A favorite love ballad to come out of Philadelphia, PA, this track is filled with so much raw emotion on this beauty that one can not help wondering how it was not a hit. But BTB bring it back once again, limited to 250 white label promos and unlimited stock copies available now at the link below. This one is a stunner folks, so don’t sleep. West Philly magic at its finest put together once again by the fine chaps at Brewerytown Beats.
