Saun & Starr – Look Closer (Can’t You See The Signs?)

Saun and StarrFollowing the success of their first 45 “Hot Shot”, no question the biggest selling single in the Daptone Records catalog, Saundra Williams and Starr Duncan-Lowe aka Saun & Starr are on the move. Long time back up singers for Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, this duo steps from the background into the spotlight with the single from their upcoming May 19th release of the same name. Produced by Gabriel Roth and recorded at the House of Soul in Bushwick, Brooklyn, Look Closer is ten tracks including their first hit “Hot Shot”. Recorded with the Dap-Kings, the track has that signature Daptone sound: hard hitting drums and those horns that producers far and wide are craving for. However, the band weaves gold wherever they play, it is Saun & Starr that are the superstars here. There is a reason they back up the Queen of Soul, and it’s great to see the talented pair come correct with a full length soul effort. Airy and soulful like a summer breeze, these two harmonize and trade vocals throughout. It’s no mistaking that this is a Daptone effort, and Saun & Starr are spot on with their vocals. The company itself laid the blueprint of how to properly record and put out real soul music. These two long time talents not only paid attention while it was going on, they turned into the breakout stars. With Grammy nominations, and in demand studios sessions from big producers, Daptone still always keep their stable of performers fresh. Keep your eye on the two of these soul sirens, you’ll be hearing much more from them very soon. Check out the single below:
